Black Summer Stories

The devastating Black Summer fires raged from September 2019-February 2020 across large parts of Australia. The fires left deep scars in our communities, destroying homes and lives.

But in the wake of that destruction, an inspiring movement of climate leaders emerged - stronger, more determined, and united in the fight for a safer future.

5 years on, these are the Black Summer Survivors sharing their stories for Climate Action.

Fiona’s story of loss and hope and what it means to be a parent of a young child during the climate crisis

Jack & Cath’s incredible tale of losing and finding one another during the fires

Donna tells the difficult story of how she survived a fire that “fell from the sky”, urging governments to act on climate.

Jann spent 50K on renovations, then she lost everything. As a marine biologist, Jann wants to see climate action in line with science.

Barry was flown down to fight devastating bushfires in Wyndham in southern NSW. It was like nothing he had ever faced before.
